The video did a nice job of charting the outline of the
internet’s history much like Danny did in lecture in a way that was visually
appealing and easy to follow. By using graphics to represent the ever-changing nature
of the internet in its infancy, the video helped clarify the unclear technical
jargon often tossed around. In a similar vein, the cohesion of the graphics
with the words of the speaker allowed for better comprehension of the many
names (i.e. Rand Corp., ARPANET) that played pivotal roles in the growth of the
internet.
The only real downside of the video is that for a lot of
people (including myself) information about the technical aspects involved in the
growth of the internet is rather dull – most of us I think are more interested
in the internet’s function as a communication mechanism. Nonetheless, just like
in the study of any discipline, it is important to know the historical roots of
the internet to make sense of all the changes that are constantly occurring with
the internet today.
