History of the Internet

What I found to be the most striking about "History of the Internet," was the explosive evolution of the Internet in sheer size and connectivity within a relatively short amount of time. The progression began with ARPANET, which started as a handful of users, and whose purpose was specialized. This progression has reached the level of our massive Internet today, in which the entire globe is connected and the uses for it are seemingly endless, as new ideas for its purpose appear frequently. When one considers the time it took to transition from ARPANET to today's vastly different version of the Internet, it is astonishing to think that all of it has occurred within a lifetime. I cannot think of any other technological or even mechanical tool that has evolved so rapidly into something so huge in such a short amount of time. It might be a bit sensationalist and optimistic to assume the Internet's current exponential rate of developmental growth will continue until some sort of all-encompassing networking perfection is reached.  But it seems certain that the Internet's growth will continue for some time, and I can not even imagine what innovations await us.
