Blog 3, Technopanics: MySpace

First before even going to the site, music and social entertainment are the first two things that come up when you search MySpace on google which made me think, "no one uses this for 'social networking' anymore." So I proceeded to browse people's profiles and it just got weirder. It does have a pre-set basic search for females between 18-35, this just perpetuates the sensationalization of men going to MySpace in order to easily find children, young girls, women etc. The women may be of age, but on the internet age is not always honest so that could be a little troubling. The second thing I noticed is about one out of every three or four of the profiles that come up under this search have pictures of girls/women that are probably implicitly inviting sexual attention. After all a good percentage of MySpace users are using the platform to 'meet' someone or something like that. Most profiles were very basic others had pink, glittery layouts, and lots have spam somewhere on the page. Overall I think there are responsible users and just kids messing around figuring out how to use the internet on MySpace, it just seems like the site is still in 2008 relatively speaking in terms of social networking.
