Another benefit of Yelp is that it give its not so active users access to forums that explain and promote the usefullness of Yelp. For me, hearing what other people's reviews were on a reivew site really hooked me. Not only were people vocal and continously active in "shouting out to yelp" and other yelpers but they also explained a little bit about themselves and how Yelp had become a useful and active component in their life.
